Kronau Marvelous Museum & Creative Corner

Hi, my name is Molly! I’m the new Collections Assistant here at the Kronau Marvelous Museum. I’m so excited to be doing this internship through the Young Canada Works in Heritage for Recent Graduates program. I started working at the museum at the beginning of August and have been working hard in the archive to get it set up and situated so that I can begin the process of documenting our collection.

Now that I’m starting to focus more on the preservation and documentation of some of our artifacts, I thought that it would be neat to write a weekly blog to document my progress in the archive, and all the cool things I find along the way. For this first post, I thought it might be nice to introduce myself to the community with some fun facts!

Where am I from?: I’m from British Columbia, but in recent years I’ve lived in a few different places, including England!

What did I do in school?: I have a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in History with minors in German and Norwegian from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Arts in War and Strategy from the University of Leeds. During both of my degrees my research has been focused on the policy towards and experience of German prisoners of war interned in the postwar period of WWII. I could talk about it all day! And I will! Ask more at your own risk!

What do I do for fun?: Lots of things! I swim with the Regina Masters club and my partner and I like to row and ballroom dance as well. Mostly though, I do a lot of handicrafts! The closer we get to the holidays the more yarn will be taking up real estate in my bag!

What’s the coolest thing I’ve found in the archive (so far)?: I’ve really been enjoying finding things that are specific to the church. One of my favourites is a church song book written in German. The different textiles pieces I’ve found are really neat too! There’s lots of fun dresses down there that I’m working to store properly (look for more on that next week).

What’s my favourite dinosaur?: Diplodocus for sure, though I do love a good Ankylosaur.
